It was another Hot one this past Saturday, May 22nd at Derby Park in Sanford Florida. Both in terms of the weather and the competition
on the track. The atmosphere had a lot of tension as the racers and the families know that this race is for the pinnacle of the sport.
A trip to the finals for the winners of each division to a chance to compete at the All American Soap Box Derby in Akron Ohio on July 24th, 2010.
The racers weighed in early in the morning then a few photo's were taken of the drivers and their masterfully built race cars in the three divisions. Masters, Superstock, and Stock.
The field had a mix of veteran rally drivers as well as newcomers who took their first trips down the hill before the local race began.
Topside was light-hearted as the Dads and Pit Crews worked to ready the drivers to race the fastest lines down the track and to focus for the 30 seconds it takes to reach the finish line at speeds reaching 30 miles and hour. The race ended mid afternoon with the racers and the families transferring to the Sanford Civic Center for celebration banquet hosted by the city of Sanford and the Bob Evans Restaurant Central Florida Locations.
Awards were presented to all finishing postilions as well as Best Appearance and Best Built awards as well as the top award for Sportsmanship. Everyone had a great time and the winners of the local race as well as the top rally participants are looking forward to their upcoming experiences in Akron, Ohio this summer.
